Chanhassen MN was first settled back in 1852, and became an official township of Minnesota in 1858. The word ‘Chanhassen’ itself actually descends from the Dakota language. Two words chan (tree) and hassen (blueberry) directly translate to “the tree of sweet juice”.
As of the 2020 census, there are 25,896 residents of Chanhassen, which makes it the 42nd largest city in Minnesota. Chanhassen is currently growing at an annual rate of 0.45% and has increased by 12.83% since the last census in 2010. The average household income of Chanhassen is $158,585. Chanhassen Dinner Theatre
When you’re from Chanhassen there are two reasons that nearly everyone has heard of your hometown. You’re home to two very famous attractions. The first being Prince’s recording studio located just off of Highway 5. The second being the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.
The dinner theatre was brought to Chanhassen in 1968 by Carol Bloomberg with the vision to bring “a little bit of Broadway to the Midwest”. The theatre is 90,000 square feet and is the nation’s largest professional dinner theatre complex. Sit back and watch a show while dinner is served right to your table. They run shows almost every day of the year and nearly 300 people attend each and every night. It’s not just musicals that you’ll be watching. Enjoy drama, concerts, and even comedy shows! Nearly fifty years of success later, the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre has served more than 12.5 million guests and comprises world-class musicians, actors, design teams, and more.

With more than 9,000 students enrolled across the eight elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and one integrated arts academy, this school district has certainly made a name for itself. The Eastern Carver County school district currently has a 97% graduation rate, and an average ACT score of 27. Advanced placement class enrollment averages about 36% over the years. Chanhassen High School also has every major sport, as well as numerous student and faculty run clubs that your student can join. If you would rather put your kid through private education, that option is available to you as well. For K-8 your kids can attend St. Huberts Academy and Chapel Hill which are both inChanhassen, and for high school they can attend Holy Family which is in Victoria. Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen, MN
If you’re looking for a place to truly experience some nature in Chanhassen, MN, then the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is the place for you. It’s located just off of Highway 5 in between Chanhassen and Victoria. It was founded in 1958 and currently has more than 1200 acres of pristine and professionally maintained gardens, trails, and rare plant collections. Their collections consist of 20 displays and model landscapes, 28 gardens, and 105 works of art. During the summer you can walk or drive their 3 mile road that goes around nearly the entire arboretum, while soaking in the beauty of this preserve. Classes are also available if you’re interested in developing our knowledge further. Throughout the winter the arboretum is still open to the public and you may walk or snowshoe the trails and 3 mile road. While the plants are obviously in hibernation, you’re still guaranteed to see great artwork and the beautiful preserved land of central Minnesota. Chanhassen Recreation Center
The Chanhassen recreation center or “Rec Center” is located just off of Highway 5, and is an integral part of the Chanhassen community. Since 1995 the Chanhassen Recreation Center has provided a fun, safe, and affordable atmosphere for its residents. The facilities include a gym, fitness center, aerobics/dance rooms, and meeting rooms. Outside of the recreation center there are several baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and hockey rinks that are available at your leisure. Looking for children's activities? Great! The Chanhassen Recreation Center has a surplus of sports available for your kids, anywhere from the ages of 3-11.
